Botox has become a popular procedure in Europe and the United States as a nonsurgical aesthetic treatment, since its approval by the FDA in 2002.

Botox has been used alone to treat wrinkles and deep-set lines in the forehead, lip, and eye region for years, all the while becoming increasingly popular. Additional treatments are now coming to the forefront to optimize Botox's effects on the skin and help provide longer-lasting, and faster results.

Certain skin treatments can be done in conjunction with Botox to increase effectiveness by improving molecular bonding of the Botox with the skin's cells. These include dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, and chemical skin peels just to name a few. Taking a proactive approach to your own skin care when increasing Botox effect is important to avoid injury or other complications.

Things You Will Need

  • Cleanser
  • Vitamin E enriched moisturizer
  • Filler
  • Protein rich foods

How to Optimize your Botox

  1. Wash and moisturize your skin daily. Proper skin care will maximize Botox benefits by keeping skin nourished and decreasing reappearance of wrinkles and deep lines. Vitamin E-enriched products work well for this type of skin care as vitamin E is essential to skin health. It helps rebuild collagen fibers while speeding up the skin's natural healing process.
  2. Apply a filler such as Rejuvest to the skin after Botox injections. Filler should be applied to the lip region and around the eyes. Be careful to avoid eye contact or ingestion of fillers. Seek medical attention immediatly should you experience either of these.
  3. Opt for laser treatments to even out further deep lines that Botox does not completely treat. This can also get rid of any dark circles or spots on the skin by removing the outer layers of dead skin and exposing fresh, new skin. Avoid excess sun exposure and exfoliation for up to 48 hours after laser treatments and avoid make up application for the first 24 hours.
  4. Eat protein rich foods. Additional protein can boost Botox effectiveness since the treatment is a form of protein. Foods such as legumes, lean meats, and nuts are ideal when requiring increased protein intake.
  5. Visit your health care professional for maintenance injections once you feel the Botox starting to lose effectiveness. Botox treatments usually last anywhere from two to four weeks. Maintenance is required in order to reap the benefits of treatment.

Warnings

Never attend and accept treatment at a Botox party. These are dangerous to your health as the injections are shared and not monitored by a medical professional. Only allow a medical professional such as a plastic surgeon or dermatologist to perform Botox procedure on your face. These men and women undergo vigorous training for your safety.
